Junior tennis triumphs
Canterbury has achieved unprecedented sweeping success in lawn tennis at junior level. The association’s four representative teams have all qualified for the Rothmans inter-district finals in Whangarei late next month by winning South Island area eliminations in various centres. The boys’ No. 1 team beat the second Otago and Southland sides without the loss of a set at Dunedin, and the girls’ No; 1 side dropped only one match in beating three opponents at Oamaru.
The No. 2 teams excelled themselves, especially the boys’ combination, which put down the Otago and Southland A teams and South Canterbury, in Invercargill. The girls’ No. 2 team overcame strong A teams from Otago and Southland at Wilding Park.
