High-priced mares
Seven brood mares from the Bruree Stud in Ireland fetched a total of £184,065 (about $NZ336,000) on the fourth day of the Newmarket December Bloodstock sales. Top prices of the consignment was £53.550 (about $98,400) paid by . agent, Keith Freeman, on behalf of the Aga Khan for Miss Melody, a young mare in foal to Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe winner. Rheingojd. Miss Melody, a six-year-old by Tudor Melody out of the Nimbus mare The Veil, is related to this year’s Newmarket One Thousand Guineas winner, Flying Water, and to Great Nephew, sire of dual English classic winner, Grundy.—London.
