Parliament’s diary

The Poultry Board Bill, the Energy Resources Levy Bill and the International Energy Agreements Bill were each introduced and read a first time in Parliament yesterday. The last-named bill was referred to the Commerce and Mining Committee, but an Opposition motion to refer the other energy measure was defeated 40-29. The sitting began with Senator J. A. McClure, from the United States as guest. Four notices of motion were tabled, and another

anti-nuclear petition, with 1965 signatories, was passed to the petitions committee. Notification was given of the Royal assent to the Estate and Gift Duties Amendment Bill, the Juries Amendment Bill and the Equal Pay Amendment Bill. The Opposition declined to accept a motion to allow the Commerce Committee to carry on during the sitting hours of Parliament tomorrow. Ministers answered 15 questions, and the House proceeded with the discussion of legislation.
