Churchmen to try again
PA Auckland The Presbyterians who unsuccessfully moved motions at the New Zealand Insurance Company’s recent annual meeting, aimed against the company’s activities in South Africa, wijl take similar action at the South British Insurance Company’s annual meeting on November 5, in the Auckland Town Hall.
The notice of the meeting carries as special business a motion, of which notice was given, for the Presbyterian Church, property trustees. It asks the company to declare Its belief in the right of equal opportunity in employment at all levels in Union National South British for Indians, Coloureds, and Africans. Two directors, Messrs B. H. Picot and J. B. Horrocks, have given notice that they will move an alternative or substitute motion, This calls for endorsement of the established company practice, of employment irrespective of colour, race or creed, and recommends that the directors continue to keep shareholders reasonably informed on progress in this matter.
The directors say they will vote for the Picot-Horrocks motion, but not for that proposed by the Presbyterians.
