Indonesian G.P. out for Avant

The New Zealand international road racer, Stewart Avant, has turned down an invitation to compete in the Indonesian Grand Prix at Jakarta on Sunday because he does not have a suitable machine. Avant is still waiting for a special Dutch frame to arrive for his TZ7SOC Yamaha and in the meantime is racing in all classes on a TZ3SOC Yamaha twin. His decision not to travel to Indonesia will enable him to concentrate on the national championship meetings, which begin shortly. However, there is a possibility that New Zealand will be represented by another Christchurch rider, John Boote, in the SouthEast Asian event. Boote was non-committal when approached on the subject, “I haven’t made my mind up yet,” he said. Boote, the New Zealand senior and open grand prix champion, has been without a machine in recent months and is not saying anything yet about his plans for the forthcoming Marlboro international series anart from confirming that he will be racing.
