Cheas.—Th® Russian chess masters, Mikhail Tai and Tigran Petrosian, drew after 20 moves in the first game of the third round of a tournament at Varese, Italy, to determine the last two candidates to challenge the world champion, Anatoly Karpov.
Soccer. —The Christchurch Sunday League soceer representatives played Metropolitan Nelson at the week-end, and led 2-1 until a couple of minutes from time, when Nelson equalised. The Christchurch scorers were T. Gallagher and G. Crozier.
