Missing tramper found
PA Wellington An Upper Hutt tramper missing for three days on a southern crossing of the; Tararua Range was found j late on Tuesday and flown to the Master-ton Hospital by helicopter. He is James Raymond Clarke, aged 28, who was found in the headwaters of the Tauherenikau River about 4 p.m., just as the police were stepping up the search and had called in an R.N.Z.A.F. helicopter. “He was found, by the pilot of a Masterton-based; helicopter, sitting on a rock in the streambed waving,” said the search controller, Sergeant D. Coote, of Wellington.
Mr Clarke had left Kaitoke on Saturday intending to make a 20km crossing to Otaki Forks in one day. He was examined at the Masterton Hospital and later discharged.
