Chance for women

Posers of the old sports question “Can top women beat average male players?” may get some sort of answer at the High School Old Boys squash courts tomorrow evening.

To mark the close of the season the top four Canterbury women—Ros Stanton, Merle Holland, Margaret Steele and Kathy Graham — will challenge the Suburbs men’s team, which was an easy winner of division four.

The women, particularly Miss Stanton, should still all be very fit and a fascinating contest is likely. One member of the men’s side is Doug Lawrie, i national junior selector. Play on the other court will feature Stu Davenport, Jamie Bushell and Mark Crosbie, the three Burnside club players who will compete in the Cheezels South Pacific junior championships in Australia next month.
