'Ruling-rate survey —or else'

PA Wellington Officials of the Combined State Service Organisations yesterday told the Government that there might be | industrial unrest within the Public Service if the Government did not make the usual October ruling-rate survey. Government sources said that during a half-hour meeting with the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) and the Minister of Labour (Mr Gordon), the C.S.S.O. had made it clear that several affiliated groups were contemplating action if the survey was not done They emphasised that the organisation wanted the results of the survey, and any pay increases, made retrospective in fhe usual way. The Government has said that there will be no October survey this year, because of the wage-freeze. The sources said that Messrs Talboy: and Gordon told the C.S.S.O. that they would take up the matter at the Cabinet meeting on Mond '. But they gave no assurance of a survey or of retrospective pay increases.
