Miners die in cave-in
NZPA Johannesburg A coalmine cave-in at Moatize, near the town of Tete in central Mozambique, might have killed 140 miners, Radio Mozambique announced yesterday. The radio said that the disaster, one of the worst in the history of the Moatize coalmining area, happened when the gallery was packed with mine teams.
The Moatize mines, about 30km north-east of Tete, are Mozambique’s most important, and provide the country with most of its fuel needs.
