Search for two men
A search-and-rescue team will leave Christchurch at 4 aun. today to try to find two Christchurch men missing in the Mount Torlesse area. The men were in a party of four which went into the area on Monday. The two men were last seen by a woman member of the party at 10.30 a.m. yesterday.
The weather in the area last night was bad, with snow falling heavily. The men, whose names have not yet been released, are experienced trampers and are well equipped, and it is not thought they are injured. However, a police spokesman said late last
evening that because of the weather, it was felt that a search was necessary. A reconnaissance party of four men is expected to arrive at the area at 6 a.m. today, and further support groups will move in later. An aerial search by an R.N.Z.A.F. plane will probably be made later today if the weather allows.
