Strong vote by union
Members of the Christchurch Sports Goods Workers* union has voted for compulsory unionism—by a majority of 98 per cent. The 60 workers in the union are all employed by Feltex Sports, of Woolston. A special provision in their constitution has established Mr Leon Morel, secretary of the Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union, to act as their secretary
Mr Ken Knight, the union president, said yesterday that the vote for compulsory unionism reflected the high regard the workers had for Mr Morel.
