N.Z. tennis circuit dates
PA Wellington! The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association will this season stage its biggest ever!
circuit. Players will be competing! in six major tournamentsj spread over seven weeks. The circuit will stretch into! February to tie in with the> probable Davis Cup match; between New Zealand and! Australia in Auckland. As a warm-up for the cup clash — the highlight of the! forthcoming season — the' New Zealand players will compete in the national cham-| pionships proposed for Well-' ington from February 2-6. The three-day cup tie begins five days later, so long as Australia has beaten India and New Zealand has been sucessful against Indonesia in preliminary matches. As a boost, New Zealand also expects to play its first Davis Cup match at home from January 19-21. From the dates announced at the national association’s management committee meeting last evening, the circuit hits off with the Rothmans district teams event in Christchurch, from December 27-29.
Then follows the Rothmans Canterbury tournament and the rich Benson and Hedges
Open in Auckland from Janui are 10-16. I The New Zealand hardcourt ~championships in Whangarei are tentatively set down for ■ January 21 to 24. followed by I the Auckland championships.
