Dog rescued handler
PA Wellington A police dog following a trail turned rescuer as it helped haul its handler from waist-deep mud on the Muriwai Flats today. The dog, Barlow, and Constable A. G. Rowlands were on the scent of an intruder disturbed in a house in Manutuke in the early afternoon. In the mud Constable Rowlands found that the more he moved the deeper he sank. “I don’t know how far 1 d have gone down,” he said. “I let the tracking harness out and told Barlow to stand still when he reached firm ground.” The 1001 b dog then acted as an anchor while the 15stone constable hauled himself clear.
