Two Fijians for Games
Fiji will send two athletes to me New Zealand Games in January next year, the Games office has been advised. The Fiji Athletic Association agreed to pay half the fares of the athletes as requested bv the Games organising committee. Seven countries, of 19 invited to the Games, have now replied to invitations. One—a team of Bulgarian weightlifters—-refused because the dates clash with its national weightlifting championships, but the other six are all positive replies.
The executive director of the Games (Mr A. W. Barrett) said the countries with invitations outstanding would have to be contacted again within the next few weeks by either cable or letter.
The five sports committees will be meeting in the next week to review their invitation lists in light of performances at the Montreal Olympics, said Mr Barrett.
Countries will not be contacted for their replies until after the committees made their reviews.
