Public Notices No. 8 WATER AND SOIL CONSERVATION ACT. 1967 NORTH CANTERBURY' CATCHMENT BOARD AND REGIONAL WATER BOARD NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of the receipt by the National Water and Soil Conservation Authority of the following application for Crown right under Section 23 (1) of the Water and Soil Conservation Act. 1967:— 18: MINISTER OF SCIENCE, D.5.1.R., LINCOLN, to take 43 cubic metres of water per day at rate of 1.5 litres per second from a 152 mm well, 13 metres deep on NorthEast boundary of property lying to the east of Springs Road and north of BoundaryRoad for the purpose of potato nematode research. The application may be examined at the office of the North Canterbury Catchment Board, corner of Latimer Square and Worcester Street, Christchurch, during normal office hours. NOTIFICATION is hereby given that pursuant to section 23 of the Water and Soil Conservation Act, 1967, the National Water and Soil Conservation Authority on August 3, 1976. decided to grant the Minister of Electricity the following rights for a period expiring on August 3, 1985. 1— Dam the Wilberforce River at or about map reference 5065:930971 by means of a temporary gravel bank, with maximum height of 2 metres ponding a maximum surface area of 14 hectares breachable in flood conditions, for the purposes of impounding natural water to be conveyed by canal to Lake Coleridge for use in power generation. 2— Divert up to 30 cubic metres of natural water per second at or about map references 5065:930971 from an impoundment behind a gravel bank on the Wilberforce River bed for the purpose of conveying natural water bycanals to Lake Coleridge for use in power generation. 3— Discharge up to 70 cu. metres of natural water per second via a grassed spillway back to the Wilberforce River at or about map reference 5065:930970 when the diversion intake flow- exceeds 30 cu. metres of natural water per second . 4— Discharge up to 30 cu. metres of natural water per second at or about maj reference 5065:945950 from the end of a canal proceeding from the Wilberforce River to the Harper River to be conveyed by a further canal to Lake Coleridge for use in power generation. 5— Dam the Harper River at or about map reference 5065: 945950 by means of a temporary gravel bank, with maximum height of 2 metres ponding a maximum surface area of 14 hectares, breachable in flood conditions, for the purpose of Impounding water to be conveyed by canal to Lake Coleridge for use in power generation. 6— Divert up to 50 cubic metres of natural water per second at or about map reference 5065:945950 from an impoundment behind a gravel bank on the Harper River bed for the purpose of conveying natural water by canal to Lake Coleridge for use In power generation. 7— Discharge up to 70 cu. metres of natural water per second via a grassed spillway to the Harper River at or about map reference 5065: 945945 when the diversion intake flow exceeds 50 cubic metres or natural water per second.

B—Discharge up to 50 cubic metres of natural water per second at or about map reference 5065:954928 from a low weir at the end of a canal proceeding from the Harper River to Lake Coleridge for use in power generation. Appeals against this decision may be lodged with the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board. Private Bag, Postal Centre. Wellington, within 28 days of the date of publication of this notice.
