Artist wins competition

PA Auckland The Titirangi artist, Gretchen Albrecht, took one of the three major New Zealand art prizes this year when she won the $lOOO Industrial Chemicals (N.Z.) Ltd, award, last night. The award was offered for a nation-wide competition, organised jointly by the Pakuranga Arts Society and the Pakuranga Rotary Club. It was the main feature of this year’s Pakuranga community festival. Miss Albrecht’s painting — an abstract in acrylic on canvas, called “Mango Slice” — was selected from more than 200 entries. The judge was Mr Ernest Smith, director of the Auckland City Art Gallery.
