Easier close to Aust, markets
Several leading mining and industrial stocks ended the week on a downward swing in lacklustre trading conditions on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Traders said that the market was hesitant ahead of the Budget to be brought donw next Tuesday, after putting on a strong show most of the week. Sellers held the upper hand from the opening bid. B.H.P. led the decline, falling 12c to 884 c in Sydney, and 8c to 886 c in Melbourne. However, it was upstaged by the 20c fall in A.N.Z. lost 20c. New package deal Commercial Union Assurance, Ltd, is seeking an extra 4 per cent of the Victorian household insurance market with a new package called caretaker which includes indexation, a no-claim bonus, and a contract which avoids legal terminology. The main innovation is that the company will try to sell the package, without salesmen, through inquiries in response to media advertising.
