REPRIEVE FOR ADAIR UNIT
It seems that the Ministry of Agriculture will be able to continue to use the Adair experimental farm hear Timaru for experimental purposes.
Following a deputation to the Minister of Agriculture. Mr Maclntyre, this week the president of South Canterbury Federated Farmers, Mr P. H. Elworthy, said that a documented case had been presented to the Minister who said that he accepted it and was confident that the Adair research and demonstration would continue to be used by the Ministry for experimental purposes. Final details of the ownership of the land would depend on discussions he was naving with the Minister of Finance, Mr Muldoon. Mr Elworthy said that in the meantime it was assumed that the unit would be used by the Ministry of Agriculture but would continue to be owned by the Ministry of Works and Development. The Minister had charged South Canterbury farmers to make good use of the research unit and farmers had assured him that this would be done as it had been in the past.
Mr Elworthy said that they were very delighted at the successful outcome of their mission.
It was feared earlier that! the farm might be closeddown for experimental pur-| poses after the Minister of! Agriculture indicated that I his department was not! interested in buying the! property which the Ministry of Works wished to sell.
