C.R.A. bid fuels rally
The Conzinc Riotinto of Australia bid for Australiar Mining and Smelting fuelled a moderate rally among mining stocks on the Melbourne Stock Exchange yesterday. The bid saw A.M. and S. rise a sharp 43c to 315 c as C.R.A. itself settled at $3.25. an adjustment from Wednesday’s close of 345 c.
Pancontinental gained 50c to 1370 c, while A.A.R., Kathleen Investments, North B.H. and Bougainville firmed. Poseidon was one of the heaviest losers, retreating 10c to 245 c. B.H.P. closed 6c better at 830 c, as did Philip Morris at 886 c. Small gains of up to 4c were made by Aust. Guarantee, Coles, Woolworths and the C.B.A. I.A.C. gained 5c at. 110 c. A.S.L. reacted to the loss report with a 2c fall to 48c. Comalco, C.S.R., Hooker and the Bank of New South Wales were others to ease.
