Wee Win successful again at trials
Wee Win once more showed that he is fast approaching his best for the national meeting when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. He went to the front with about 2000 m to run and was shaded for a time by Ros Beiaard. However, he was always pacing comfortably and was clear racing to the straight, with Willie Win closing rapidly on him further out. Neither Wee Win nor Willie Win was pressed in the run home, with Wee Win winning by half a length after taking 3:33.8 for the 2600 m. The last 800 m took 1:1.8, with the final 400 m in 29. E.qually impressive was the third place-getter, Kotare Legend, which looked to be doing his work well a length and a half behind Willie Win. Kotare Legend made a splendid beginning, but soon surrendered the lead. Olga Korbut, handy enough throughout, held on strongly for fourth, ahead of Cashmere Bay, Gay Tennessee and Eblo Mir. Willie Win, Ros Beiaard and Fallonaze broke at the start. Bejold returned a most impressive trial for the Kurow Cup on Saturday week when he led throughout his heat.
He began splendidly and was quicklv well clear of his rivals. Bob Negus eased him in the middle stages, but drew out again in the straight to have four lengths and a half to spare over Sherry' Lane, with Avalon Globe making ground for third, a neck in front of ;Tane Kaha. Pat Nash and Count Laverne were next. The winner took 2:39.2 for the 2000 m. the last 800 m in 59.8, and the final 400 m in 29.6.
