Average readings for air pollution in central Christchurch, taken by the Health Department at the Reserve Bank building for the 24 hcurs ended 9 yesterday, were: Smoke: 42, medium. ’ Sulphur dioxide: 55, low. Nitrogen oxides: 132, medium. The figures for the inner
suburban area for the same period were: Smoke: 43, medium. Sulphur dioxide: 30, low. Nitrogen oxides: 51, low. Readings are in micrograms per cubic metre. Levels are: Smoke: less than 40, low; more than 120, high. Sulphur dioxide: less than 60, low; more than 200, high. Nitrogen oxides: less than 100, low; more than 250, high.
