African racism
Sir, — I agree wholeheartedly with G. Latimore and his criticisms. Not only are the atrocities of black
“governments” glossed over, they are often totally ignored. I ask those who loudly condemn white Africa to answer the following questions: Why no “day” to commemorate the countless thousands, victims of black oppression? Why no call for one man. one vote in black Africa and the acceptance of bloody totalitarianism and dictatorships? Why no criticism of the imprisonment and disappearance of the political opposition in such countries? Why ignore the oppression in such countries as Russia because its victims are white? Why is a man’s struggle for political freedom less just because he is not black? Why the silent acceptance of raciallyselected New Zealand sports teams such as the Maori All Blacks? Finally, if sending a team to South Africa supports apartheid, can we in conscience send a tear., to the next Olympics in Moscow?— Yours, etc.,
E. SUTHERLAND. July 20, 1976.
