African racism
Sir,—Left, right, and centre are united, I think, in revulsion at Uganda’s revenge killing of an elderly woman. Mr Lattimore is not alone in this, at least. I will join him in any practical action —perhaps he will have more success than I in attempting to lodge a telegram. I wonder if the names Arenstein, Balfour, Chachalia, Dhlammi, Ensor . . . mean anything to him? They are women whose treatment seems to me more sinister, more perverted, because of the excuses of “Christianity” and “anticommunism” and “last bastion of Western Civilisation.” How amusing that Mr Lattimore does not see H.A.R.T. and C.A.R.E. in action. Since H.A.R.T. is against “all” racist tours, Mr Lattimore need not again protest on his own against the Ugandans. He will join us, if he acts at all.—Yours, etc., KEN MCALLISTER. July 21, 1976.
Sir, —Whatever it is that G. Steven thinks apartheid may have where black is black and white is white certainly does not take into consideration the many shades of grey, and their plight in purist racial societies. — Yours, etc, ROSIE ISABEL WITTY. July 21, 1976.
