Motor sports
Sir, — People who moan about motor sports make my blood boil. How many of them drive many miles to the horse race meetings held all over the country? No-one complains about that or cuts them back because the Government makes money out of them. Motor racing has had cuts to save fuel and the Heatway Rally now only runs in one" island instead of the former two. People who use cars for sport usually save energy in other areas. What about the Sunday drivers, the people who drive to work alone, and the Government “tanks” used to drive all over the country? Some like football, yet how many drive to watch? This may not use as much fuel but it goes on all winter not just once a year. To each his own, and let us worry about our own savings, not everyone else’s. — Yours, etc., L. WHEELER. July 19, 1976.
