N.Z.-breds do well at Caulfield
NZPA Melbourne. New Zealand-bred gallopers had great success at the Caulfield meeting on Saturday, winning three of the seven races. Heading the New Zealand success was the Pakistan four-year-old gelding. Devereux, which won the 1600 m Malvina Welter by a short half head. It was his fifth win in a generally disappointing racing career after showing great early promise. Devereux, starting at 7 to 1, won by the shortest possible margin from the 6 to 1 chance. Bunt, with El Topaz <l4 to 1) another two lengths awav third. Princess Amura ''Bahroon — Miss Amura) landed some big wagers in leading throughout to win the 1400 m Turf Club Handicap in comfortable fashion. Princess Amura. starting at 3 to 1. won by three lengths from the 7 to I’chance, Troth, with
Royal Welcome '4 to 1)) a half a head away third Despite carrying 57kg. with a 2 skg apprentice claim for Noel Barrett, Princess Amura relished the wet conditions and won well. It was the filly’s second Australian win in nine starts. The Headland II two-year-old gelding. Zelenski upset a confident plunge on Ferms King, in easily winning the 1600 m Newminster Handicap. Zelenski, trained by Bart Cummings beat the 7 to 1 chance, Scottish Dancer, by three lengths, with Tom’s Brandy (33 to I) a short half head away third. The 6 to 4 favourite. Ferrus King ran a disappointing fourth. Zelenski. ridden bv Victoria’s premier jockey. Roy Higgins, is preparing for the rich three-year-old classics. Including the V.R.C.
