Women used as shields
NZPA Kuala Lumpur Communist guerrillas operating in the Jerantut area, 60 miles north-east of Kuala Lumpur, are using women and children as human shields to protect themselves from security forces, according to the Chief Minister of Pahang state (Mr Mohamed Jusoh).
About 30 Communist sympathisers were arrested after a clash between security forces and a guerrilla band in the area last week, he! said, according to the Associated Press.
“Interrogation of two women and four children, who were among the group, showed that the guerrillas had used them as shields during for ways into villages for food and other supplies,” he said. “The women and children are made to walk ahead of the guerrillas so that security forces will not open fire immediately if they encounter the guerrillas,” Mr Jusoh said.
