PA Wellington A Soroptimist scholarship, worth $lOOO, has been awarded to Miss Estelle Woods, an 18-year-old Maori student from Whakatane studying for a B.Ed degree at Waikato University and Hamilton Teachers’ College. The scholarship, which extends over a period of three years, is the second which New Zealand Soroptimists ( have made to assist a Maori girl in studies at tertiary level, according to a Sorop-I timist’s statement. The first was made some years ago to Kim Hughes, of Hastings, who later graduatedß.A. from Massey University. It was the success of the first scholar which led Soroptimists to raise sufficient funds to found a scholarship in perpetuity. The award is made triennially.
