Australian airlift

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY. May 9.

Australia's Italian community of 400,000 is planning an airlift of emergency supplies to the earth-quake-hit area of north-east Italy. Mr James Bayutti, president of the Sydney Italian community’s Apia Club, said that a meeting would be held in Sydney to organise an airlift of medical supplies and clothing to the area.

“About 60,000 of Australia’s Italian immigrants are from the Fruilia province, and many have been trying desperately to obtain information about the situation there,’ he said. “I have been up all night. I have had literally hundreds of telephone calls,” he said.

The bi-weekly Italian-lan-guage newspaper, “La Fiammo,” which is printed in Sydney and circulates nationally, has brought out two special free editions devoted entirely to coverage of the earthquake.
