Twelve share in on-course treble

(N Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM. Twelve ticket-holders shared in the $264.05 on-course treble at the Marlborough Racing Club's fixture yesterday. The horses involved were Glandovey (Irvine Hurdles). His Gesture (Ward Maiden) and Princess Rupee (Clouston Handicap). Glandovey opened the treble with a five-length success in the Irving Hurdles. The outing was his second over fences. A high-priced galloper by Oncidium from Honey Light, he is raced by Sir Walter Norwood and is trained by E. Temperton at Awapuni. The stable jockey, Michael Gillies, had the mount. Glandovey has a definite jumping background in his pedigree, his dam. Honey Light, being by Callander from Aurora Australia, a Salmagundi mare, descending from the imported Simper. The lead changed several times in the opening stages with Gay Corinthian, Weldun and Glandovey taking their place in front. Glandovey was sprinted clear at the 1000 m and dio not look like being pegged back at any stage. Willoughby took second from the long-priced Art’eurton, with a further gap to Bennelong. Richneil and Escaii i«eaded the others.

The second leg, me Ward Maiden Stakes, gave His Gesture a well-deserved victory after eight consecutive minor piacings. By Charicles His Gesture led for most of the race, with Party Goddess and Bila Bend in close attendance. His Gesture, in the hands of the stable apprentice, L. Collins, held on to beat Party Goddess in a close finish. Bila Bend was third, with Aflame, Cider and Pondora next. The winner is raced in partnership by his Tuahiwi trainer, Rav Harris, and Mr W. M. Rum-

Collins was a last-minute replacement for Maurice Thornley, who broke a collarbone when Karate took a tumble in the Irving Hurdles earlier in the day. Lindsay Carston, formerly from Canterbury but now based at Palmerston North, scored a popular and overdue success with Princess Rupee in the Clouston Handicap. Ridden by Gus Clutterbuck, Princess Rupee sat in behind Millie Mandy. Lo Sai Chu, Maria Zenda and Buaidh Aris till near the turn. She finished strongly and led over the concluding stages to score by a length from Questo Tempo, with a neck to Rulaway (back mainly), and two lengths to Magic Case. Raced by a Palmerston North insurance ' identity. Mr N. A. Moroney, and his wife. Princess Rupee is by Afghanistan from Cosmetic, a ’mare by Blueskin II from Out of the Bag. by Lucky Bag.
