Showstopper breaks record
(Special Correspondent) BLENHEIM. Showstopper showed genuine class when she beat Gold Prince and Twelve Oaks home in course record time in the Sevenoaks Handicap for juveniles at Blenheim yesterday. She reeled off the 1000 m in 59.3 seconds, breaking Pearl Hagen’s record. In the last five weeks Showstopper has won races at Nelson, Tauherenikau and Blenheim (twice) and may next appear at either Wellington on Saturday week, or Foxton, according to her Levin trainer, Errol Skelton. By Showoff 11, she is from Miss Minx, an imported Alcide mare, and is raced by a 25-man syndicate, which leases the filly from her Palmerston North breeder Mr A. J. Fell. Bernard Browne had her in front after about 250 m and she simply strolled home.
Gold Prince, which had given the Manawatu-based sire, Princely Note, his first New Zealand success on Monday, was a clear second. The gelding is prepared by P. M. Busuttin, who gained his first training success with Monday’s win.
