Progress monitored

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) WELLINGTON, May 5. The Government has asked the Committee On Women to monitor progress on recommendations made by the Conference on the Role of Women, the acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) said today. “We want to ensure that the recommendations are processed without delay,” Mr Taiboys added. “The Committee On Women, which organised last month’s conference under the spon‘sorship of the Prime Minister, is the logical organisation to keep tabs on progress.” Mr Taiboys said the Government was convinced of the need for a continuing source of advice on the role of women in the country’s social and economic development. The appropriate permanent location of an advisory body would be considered in the context of the over-all review of planning structures at present being carried out. “In the meantime,” Mr Taiboys said, “I have confidence in the ability of the Committee On Women to continue its valuable advisory role and have asked it to report t regularly to me, as Minister of National Development, on topics of concern to women in the development process. I am considering the appointment of additional members to the committee to ensure that its membership is widely based.”
