Home and family
Sir, —The realistic attitude taken by the Cabinet Committee on the Family is ably expressed by its chairman and Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Walker). His assessment of the general trend away from the family structure and the reasons why parents are confused about the concept of good sound family life, puts the situation into perspective and gives hope of a long overdue reevaluation of the moral obligations to support one) another by living in a closer association which shows concern for family members of all ages. Mrs Judith Hay as Mayoress and spokeswoman for the newly-named regional Women’s Decade Committee put forward some objectives towards strengthening the status of parenthood and encouraging the presence and availability of a parent in the home while children are young. Women should get behind Mr Walker’s Cabinet Committee. —Yours etc., L. E. REID. May 5, 1976.
