Training pays pigeons

AUCKLAND Mr O. Simms of Avondale had two prize-winning pigeons in his loft on Saturday. The - came out ahead of 2000 birds entered in the Great Australasian Futurity Stakes from Levin to Auckland, 40 of which had been flown from Australia to be trained for the race. Mr Simms has been training the birds since Christmas. One of them, winner of the western section and over-a'l winner of the race, is owned by Mr W. Morrison of Palmerston North. It completed the 285 miles from Levin to Auckland in 6hrs Bmin. The other is owned by Mr Simms.
