Care refused children

(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY. The Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children postponed the admission of 50 children for routine treatment last week, because of work bans imposed by its nurses. The postponement could have adverse effects on the ' child patients, the hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr P. Mcready, said. It would aggravate any I distress young children I might later suffer at being separated from their mothers in hospital. : “We give parents a book- ' let to help them prepare children for entering hospital.” Dr Mcready said. "These parents will have to start all over again.” The hospital’s nurses have joined colleagues in other hospitals in refusing to handle non-urgent cases in protest against delays in settling their pay dispute. They are still servicing the casualty department and working overtime when needed.
