Lion award to Irving
The veteran Lancaster Park off-spin bowler, Bruce Irving, was the over-all winner of the “Lion Player of the Day” competition held throughout the senior club cricket season.
Although he did not add any points on Saturday, Irving’s total of 18 was sufficient to keep him one ahead of Victor Pollare (East-Shirley). In third place was Wayne Wilson, of Lancaster Park, and Geoff Smith (St Albans), Paul McEwan (Old Collegians), lan Wilson (Sydenham) and Bill Thomson (Sydenham) shared fourth.
Leading scorers were:— Irving 18, Pollard 17, W. Wilson 15, Smith, McEwan, 1. Wilson, Thomson, all 14, Alan Hounsell (Old Boys) 13.
Those to gain three points on Saturday were Pollard, David Stead, Derek Banks and Kevin Collins; two points went to Stephen Boock, Peter Stubb'ings, Barry Hadlee and Thomson; scorers of one point were Robert Ruwhiu, Bhiku Bhana, John Phillips and Balvant Bhana.
