N.B. soccer president out
The New Brighton soccer club has run into more administration trouble. Its president, Mr B. A. Lapthorn, yesterday confirmed that he had resigned from both that position, and as a member of the club committee.
Although Mr Lapthorn emphasised that the decision was a personal one, and made mostly because of pressure of work, he did admit to “some disagreement” with the club.
“It is not being run as a business, and certainly not to my satisfaction,” he said. “But I shall remain with Brighton, probably working with the juniors.” Mr Lapthorn said that he had first put in his resignation four weeks ago, had been asked to reconsider it, but
had now made it definite He denied, however, that his decision had anything to do with the fact that the New Zealand international. Graham Storer, had now decided to join Stop Out instead of returning to the seasiders. Storer’s wish to return to Brighton after failing to gain a regular place in the Christchurch United side may have caused the latest upset at Brighton.
The Brighton manager, Terry- Seacy, was reported yesterday as saying that the club coach, Martin Stewart, was opposed to Storer’s return, although the club committee had voted unanimously to have him back. Apparently, the final say on whether Storer should be allowed to return to Brighton was up to Seacy and Stewart — and Stewart won
