Easy winner for stable

Thomas Mellay, the easy winner of the Winchmore High-weight at Ashburton yesterday, now has a record of four wins from eight starts from the Riccarton stable of Michael McCann. ; However, he raced this season before joining the McCann stable, and will have a programme of only one race, at Rangiora, before the Canterbury Jockey Clubs autumn meeting. Thomas Mellay was bought out of a Wingatui stable by Mr Phil Heffernan, of Christchurch, and his venture is now proving to be quite rewarding.

A well-turned son of Mellay, Thomas Mellay is out of Palmaris, by the great stayer Beaumaris. As a four-year-old . next season, Thomas Mellay seems destined to excel over more ground than he has tried so far.
