Otago folds against Auck.

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND. With the Otago batting failing once again without Glenn Turner, under ideal batting conditions, Auckland cruised away to its first win of the Shell series at Eden Park yesterday by six wickets.

After dismissing Otago for 216 yesterday morning, only one run better than its first innings, Auckland only had to score 70 runs for the win, which it achieved in lighthearted fashion while losing four wickets.

Auckland built its winning position with its first innings of 362 for six wickets declared on Saturday, an innings notable for centuries for Rodney Redmond, his second hundred in consecutive Shell matches this season, and Mark Burgess. Both scored 103, but Burgess was not out and his century in 130 balls was the

fastest of the Shell series so far.

Redmond and Terry Jarvis scored 129 together for the second wicket while Burgess, who hit 15 fours, and John Red (37) put on 110 for the sixth wicket. None of the Otago bowlers was especially menacing on the comfortable pitch but Don McKechr.ie earned his three wickets for 49 with accurate and clever spin bowling. Otago started yesterday only 29 runs on with three wickets standing. It put up a useful fight until John Mclntyre had Gren Alabaster brilliantly caught by Jim Riley and the innings folded up at 216.
