Tourney with a difference
The South Brighton Bowling Club wHI break new ground • with a tournament it is holding shortly to mark its tyi’enty-fifth anniversary'. Before the first section rounds begins on March 10. there will be demonstration singles games featuring four prominent players. The players invited are Klevin Darling, the former Scottish international,. Mortan Moffat, the national singles champion-of-cham-pions last season, Cyril Thompson, and Ernie Todd, of Blenheim, who was run-ner-up in the national singles tw'o years ago.
The idea of demonstration matches to begin a tournament was brought hack from Australia by a member of the South Brighton club, Tom Dixon, who contested the annual Gold Coast tournament last winter.
Another unusual feature is that instead of teamsj having to record a, set number of wins to qualify, as is usually the’ practice in New Zealand, the qualifiers will be the winners of each section.
The club has received' extensive sponsorship for the tournament and it is still taking entries.
