About $ll,OOO for Guatemalan earthquake relief j has been received from the ; North Canterbury area of the New Zealand Red Cross Society. The society has sent, more than $lOO,OOO to Guatemala for disaster relief, including a contribution of $50,000 by the Government. The secretary-manager of the North Canterbury branch of the society (Mr R. J. Lips-j combe) said that disaster aid' was larger than was at first thought. “Relief teams are; jcontinuing to work 24 hours' ia day,” he said. The Guatemala Red Cross was continuing mass feeding of the victims of the earthquake, he said. Rations being distributed included red beans, rice, salt, sugar, coffee, cooking oil, and potatoes.

Medical care was being provided, and there were sufficient medical supplies, Mr Lipscombe said.
