Orchestra meeting
Sir.—The more discerning of your readers will have no doiibt noticed that my letter in your paper this morning was dated January 25. It was written the day after the Trust had breached its own constitution by not calling the special general meeting within the required period. In fact it had been stated publicly that it did not intend to" call the meeting. I understand that my' letter was referred for comment and I will leave it to your readers to surmise the reason why it was a full month before it appeared in print. Of course the matter was out-of-date bv the time the letter was published and I had long since given up exoectation of seeing it in print. However, if complaints against public bodies who infringe against their own constitutions are to be dismissed as “a popular sport” then it is a sad day indeed for democracy.—Yours, etc., P. D. BARTON. February 25, 1976.
(The reply to an earlier letter from P. D. Barton, printed yesterday, was wrongly attributed to Mr J. Reid. County Clerk. Waimairi County Council. The letter
had been referred to Mr D. B. Rich, chairman of the council, who, however, replied as its representative on the Canterbury Orchestra Trust. The error is regretted.]
