Thousands of villagers tn west central Greece spent a cold New Year’s Eve in the open as tremors continued to shake the area where a girl was killed and two women were injured in an earthquake. The national observatory [said that after the earthiquake there were 40 tremors up to 4a.m., the strongest at midnight registering 4.75 on the Richter scale. The stricken area is about 17()km northwest of Athens. The killer earthquake measured 5.75 and caused wide damage, about 100 houses ■collapsed in villages in Aitolia and 500 more became uninhabitable there and in INafpaktia. Hundreds of others were cracked, the police said. Several houses were damaged in Patras iti self.
