Deep Mystery Cup fancy for Kurow
Deep Mystery' and The Blues will be strong runners for Riccarton stables in the Kurow club’s T.A.B. double today.
Deep Mystery pulled himself ragged in the Timaru Cup last week, and his fourth reflected high credit on his pluck and present level of fitness.
He will have the Timaru Cup winner Royal Dell and the Waikouaiti Cup winner Anita Kay in the line-up against him today but if he settles kindly early for his new partner, lan Grant, he should take up his winning record again where he left off in the Geraldine Cup in the spring. Royal Dell, the Kurow Cup top-weight with 56.5, is 3.5 kg above both Deep Mystery and Anita Kay. Royal Dell ran Anita Kay to half a length in the Waikouaiti Cup. Equally impressive was the Gore-trained Game Warrior, which finished third after being checked. If Game Warrior is at ease on a “tighter” circuit at Kurow he might give Deep Mystery most to do today. The Blues a strongly finishing second to Panagor at
Washdyke last Saturday, will have a revitalised veteran in Corrandulla as a strong form rival in the second leg, the T. A. Munro Handicap, but should be good enough to win under top weight. Corrandulla ran Panagor close at Waikouaiti on Thursday, and if he’ comes up well after that run he will be expected to complete a short-priced quinella with The Blues. Fields with form and riders: for the T.A.B. double are:— 3.25 p.m.— KUROW CUP $2200; 2000 m. 1 2712 Royal Dell (1) 56.51 G. Gullery 2 3967 Windvale (8) 54.0 K.
