Long swim abandoned
(N.Z Press Association! NEW PLYMOUTH The Auckland swimmer. Perry Cameron, aged 34. had ito abandon his attempt to I swim the length of Lake Taupo on Saturdav because (of the intense cold , Cameron set out from Stump Bay. on the southern shore, accompanied by a .boat and a rubber craft, in (cold and choppy conditions but after swimming 12 of the 23 miles to the Taupo fore-
shore he had to leave the water. The swim has only been achieved once — by Miss Margaret Sweeney, in 1955, on her second attempt.
