Minister’s law, order pledge
f.V.Z. Press - Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. The new Minister of Police (Mr McCready) has pledged himself to see that law and order is upheld and the police are not humiliated in any way.
He said at his home in Levin that he was looking forward to what he described as a challenging job as Minister of Police. Under the police portfolio, one of his first interests will be to visit the Task Force in Auckland. “I think it has done a magnificent iob and I want to find out about it at first hand.
“The most important point of course is, that law and order is upheld and that the police force is not humiliated in any way. I
can assure them they will have my full support and the full support of the Government.
"People want the streets safe for themselves and their children at night.” Mr McCready said he would be meeting the Commissioner of Police (Mr Ken Burnside) next week.
Mr McCready will also return to the defence portfolio which he held in the last National Government. He hopes that more will be done for the armed forces in the next three years.
“Things have got behind in the last three years and I am determined that the strength of the forces must be maintained.”
