Mangos quits training
(“The Press” Special Service) AUCKLAND. D. R. Mangos has given up training and is taking his family back to Christchurch. He said yesterday he had reached the stage where he could no longer “carry” owners who did not pay. “I have had some terrific owners, people who pay their accounts by return mail. But some owners, and I don’t care who knows it, have let me down badly.” Mangos said the amount owing > in training fees came to several thousand dollars. He added he had placed the. matter in the hands of debt collectors. Even if the accounts' were settled, however, he was ■ adamant he was finished with professional training. • Mangos was employed by the Christchurch trainer. G. B. Noble, for 22 years until he took out a trainer’s licence in May, 1973, and settled at Kumeu. When he decided to qsit training, he had a team of 18 in work. Most of the horses he was training have been placed with other trainers. Among them are Bella’s Prince, Whenuanul (both with R. C. Purdon) and Volo Bay (T. H. Knowles). Mangos has no immediate plans concerning what he will do in Christchurch. “I’ll have a bit of a break first,” he said, “then start thinking about getting a job.”
