Rescuer drowns

( (N.Z. Press Association) LEVIN, December 8. A man who went to the laid of his 13-year-old daughter at Foxton Beach late yesterday afternoon was swept 'out to sea and drowned. His body was recovered about 6 a.m. today. He was Brian James Allen, aged 36, married, with four children, of 41 Holdsworth Avenue, Palmerston North. Another man, who also got into difficulties when assisting in the rescue attempt, was this morning still missing and presumed drowned. He is Wayne Tewharepunga Lackner, aged 26. a driver, of Palmerston North.

The girl, who was with a group on a sandbank hunting for pipis when she got into difficulties, managed to get ashore, with some help.
