Rolleston
Sir, — I am glad to see the last of this ill-conceived city. It posed too many ecological problems, particularly what to do with sewage effluent. The temptation to use Lake Ellesmere, as the cheapest method, would be irresistible. In fact, one county engineer closely concerned had already suggested this possibility. For a lake already threatened with eutrophication this would be the deathblow, but no economic alternative can be seen. If we must have a new city, there are better sites — including one I have already suggested, Bankside. — Yours, etc., G. A. POLLOCK. December 8, 1975.
