Not a meal ticket
Sir, — Supply and demand considerations appear to be often overlooked by those offering vocational guidance. The excess supply of certain graduates should be tackled at source. Government, drawing on long range planning, should direct universities so that they regulated their departments to produce graduate numbers and skills in keeping with forecasts. It is quite irresponsible to increase university facilities merely on secondary student demand. Greater use should be made of Technical Institute middle education facilities. There is abundant evidence that only a fortunate minority can identify their vocation. “J.M.W.” presents a lucid picture, but is likely- to invest further time learning additional skills with dollar value which, hopefully, yield also job satisfaction. —
Yours, etc., B. R. HOMERSHAM. December 8, 1975.
